2. History of Happiness Road

2.1 Historical Background of Construction

Happiness Road, Ha Giang was built after 8 years to complete

Happiness Road was started on September 10, 1959, and completed on March 10, 1965. The route is about 185km long and plays a key role in connecting ethnic groups on the Dong Van Karst plateau. More than 1000 young volunteers and nearly 1,200 civilians have participated in this project, they have had to work in extremely difficult conditions with rudimentary tools such as hoes, shovels, and hammers. The construction of the road is not simply a traffic project but also a symbol of the courage and determination of the young generation at that time.

During the construction process, 14 young volunteers sacrificed, symbolizing their courage and will in the construction of the country. Today, Happiness Road has become one of the attractive tourist destinations with beautiful natural scenery and profound historical value.

Before the Happiness Road was born, traveling from Ha Giang town to Meo Vac mainly had to go through muddy trails only for pedestrians or freight horses. This is very difficult for trade as well as socio-economic development in the region. Therefore, the opening of the Hanh Phuc route has become a historic decision, not only helping to improve traffic but also making a great contribution to the development of the whole region.

The construction of Happiness Road took place in the harsh weather of the highlands, where the terrain is full of steep passes and deep ravines, which has caused many challenges and dangers. However, with the spirit of solidarity, patriotism, and determination, the volunteer youth overcame it all to complete their mission. The road not only connects geography but also connects the hearts of the people here.

2.2 The sacrifice of young volunteers

This is a great symbol demonstrating the brave and resilient will of the Vietnamese people

The sacrifice of young volunteers is an indispensable part of the historical story that formed Happiness Road. They are enthusiastic, energetic, and enthusiastic young people who contribute to the construction of the homeland. From the day of commencement to completion, Happiness Road has witnessed difficult moments, long nights of hard work, and even painful losses.

Young volunteers face harsh working conditions: rugged terrain, cold weather, and shortages of food and clean water. They had to work day and night, sometimes enduring the bitter cold in the cold winter of the highlands, with only fragile clothes. The image of these young people is really admirable when they not only dedicate their energy but also their youth to make this miracle happen.

Their sacrifice not only contributed to the completion of the road but also created a symbol for the young generation of Vietnam during that period. They wrote a chapter in history with pages full of tears and sweat. Thereby, the Happiness Road is not only a connecting route but also a place to store memories of those who sacrificed for the country.

That makes Happiness Road a metaphor for the resilient spirit and patriotism of the people here. Stepping on this path, we not only feel the beauty of nature but are also reminded of the noble sacrifices of previous generations.
